Un Certain Regard
Un Certain Regard (meaning 'a certain glance') is the section that recognizes young talent and encourages innovative and daring works by awarding a grant to aid in the distribution of one of the films in France.
The section features 20 films with unusual styles and non-traditional stories vying for international recognition.

Cannes Festival Awards by Independent Entities
Several awards are sponsored by organizations supporting the arts of film.
- FIPRESCI Prize: The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) is an association of national organizations of professional film critics and film journalists from around the world for 'the promotion and development of film culture and for the safeguarding of professional interests'.
- Prix Vulcain de l’Artiste Technicien: The Vulcan Award of the Technical Artist is an independent film award and rewards the work of a technician for his or her collaboration in the creation of a film from the official selection of the Cannes Film Festival. It is awarded by a special jury, appointed by the Superior Technical Commission of Image and Sound (Commission Supérieure Technique de l’Image et du Son).
- International Critics' Week: The International Critics’ Week presents a very selective programming of only seven feature films and seven short films in Cannes so that the films can get a greater visibility. The Critics’ Week Grand Prix (Nespresso Prize) is awarded by the press (journalists and films critics are invited to vote after each screening of the Selection).
- Trophée Chopard: The Trophée Chopard highlights the international film industry's up-and-coming generation and shrewdly wagers on the talents of tomorrow by rewarding both a young actress and a young actor poised for a successful career on the silver screen.
- Palm Dog: The Palm Dog Award is a yearly alternative award presented by the international film critics during the Cannes Film Festival. Begun in 2001 by Toby Rose, it is awarded to the best performance by a canine (live or animated) or group of canines during the festival.
- Queer Palm: The Queer Palm is an independently sponsored prize for selected LGBT-relevant films entered into the Cannes Film Festival.
- Cannes Soundtrack Award: The Cannes Soundtrack Award is an independent award of the Cannes Film Festival bestowed by the jury of the festival on one of the competing feature films
- Pierre Angénieux Excellens in Cinematography: The Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography is an annual award that pays tribute to a prominent international director of photography at the Cannes Film Festival.
